bETTER LIFE THROUGH TAEKWONDO is an initiative started in 2007 to cater for the youth in slums and less privileged areas
of Nairobi.
The aim was, and still is, to popularise the sport of taekwondo among the youth in the slums.
Nairobi has a large concentration of slums. These are, Kibera, by far the largest in East and Central Africa, Mathare,
Korogocho, Mukuru, Kwa Ruben, Soweto and many others. Levels of crime are high in these areas.
HIV/AIDS, sexual promiscuity and drug abuse are common. The people lack self esteem. Taekwondo was introduced to change
the people and give them back their pride.
